Episode 153 – Carlos Tanner – Healing Trauma/PTSD – Plant Medicine, Ayahuasca

Carlos Tanner is the Director of the Ayahuasca Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Iquitos, Peru In 2017, Carlos opened the Risobo Ayahuasca Research Center, a research and healing center which will study the effects of ayahuasca and plant medicine on such issues as childhood trauma and chronic pain, PTSD, abuse and many others. In this conversation we talk about healing trauma with the use of these sacred medicines.

Dr. Bache is a professor, researcher and author who has been teaching and writing about consciousness, philosophy and religion for more than thirty years. Christopher received his PhD in Philosophy and Religion from Brown University and went on to be a professor of Religious Studies at Youngstown State University. Dr. Dennis McKenna is an ethnopharmacologist who has studied plant hallucinogens for over forty years. He is the author of many scientific papers, and co-author, with his brother Terence McKenna, He holds a doctorate from the University of British Columbia, He received post-doctoral research fellowships in the Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacology, National Institute of Mental Health, and in the Department of Neurology, Stanford University School of Medicine. He is a founding board member of the Heffter Research Institute, a non-profit organization focused on the investigation of the potential therapeutic uses of psychedelic medicines.

He recently completed a project, funded by the Stanley Medical Research Institute, to study the Amazonian ethnomedicine for the treatment of schizophrenia and cognitive deficits. This episode was nothing short of hilarious, where Dennis and I both have a beer together and get into the trenches of science and plant ecology. Episode 98 – Hamilton Morris on Chemistry, obscure compounds and working with VICELAND

Hamilton Morris is a chemist, explorer, documentary filmmaker and scientist. He studied anthropology and science at the University of Chicago, and at The New School, a private research university in Lower Manhattan. As a sophomore, he began writing Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia, a monthly column for Vice Magazine. That evolved into a series of articles and documentaries for VBS.tv, an online network founded by filmmaker Spike Jonze, and is now owned by Vice dot com. Vice brought the series to HBO and Viceland TV. He is also the science editor for Vice Magazine, and a Vice correspondent.
